CloseWhat is the difference between Quartz Surfaces and Corian?
Corian is basically plastic. Raw plastic is processed, colorants are added, and then cast in sheet form. Quartz surfaces are engineered stone. They are comprised of 93-94% natural quartz, the hardest of minerals found in granite combined with a polyester resin. Both products are essentially comprised of plastic to ensure strength and consistency, however there are differences between the two. The primary difference is durability. Because quartz surfaces are primarily stone, they are more heat resistant and scratch resistant. While they are not 100% comparable to granite in performance, as the resin component lessens the durability, they are stronger and more versatile than solid resin surfaces like Corian. Corian can be repaired if scratched, but the Quartz surfaces aren't likely to scratch in the first place.
