Limestone and Travertine are soft stones, therefore best used for flooring, vanity tops, fireplace surrounds, and furniture. They are usually available in a honed finish, although some of the denser limestone can be polished to a higher gloss finish. Because of their softness, they are easy to quarry and shape, but they are extremely porous materials, and must be properly sealed and maintained frequently. As with marble, acids and harsh cleaners will etch the surface. Neutral cleaners are recommended on a daily basis.
